SOUTHERN BLUE RIDGE KAYAK ANGLERS www.southernblueridgekayakanglers.com
Mark Melius of Roanoke heads up this group of 40 plus members who would love to hear from you. Check them out on their website or facebook. You will find a FORUM on the site where the core group communicates as to who is headed out and where to meet up for fishing floats.
This is an informal group that welcomes newcomers looking to take advantage of the numerous waterways that are available to us throughout southwest virginia. There are no membership dues, just sign up. The group frequents the New, James, Roanoke and Maury rivers to name a few as well as Leesville, Philpott and Smith Mountain Lakes. So if your looking for some cost effective fishing fun this spring and summer or whenever mother nature cooperates, hit this group up!
Southern Blue Ridge Kayak Anglers have several tournaments planned throughout the spring and summer of 2015. Including their main event in August on the James river at Buchanan. This tournament will benefit the pediatric oncology clinic at Carilion Clinic Childrens Hospital and it will be called "2015 Fishing for a Kid's Cure".
I enjoyed speaking to Mark while gathering this information and it was easy to sense his passion for fishing. This passion for fishing also drove him to create fishing rods specifically designed for kayak fishing. He calls this part time business Kayak Sticks Custom Rods www.kayaksticks.com
